After every single conversation with Tracy and Peter, we would end up talking for minutes about their upcoming wedding. It wasn't just a casual chat either; it felt more like an entrepreneur friend who gets how things work in the industry together. And when the day of planning came around? Well let's just say that all our worries were put away because this woman knows what she is doing!
During our lengthy planning, we discovered a few things that we wanted to document for their wedding film: 1) They go wonderfully together, complementing and contrasting each other in the most delightful ways., 2) Their energy is contagious; their enthusiasm for life is infectious, and 3) It was critical that we capture all of Tracy's efforts in the day's decor. She is, afterall, in the business of arranging parties and event decor.
Planning is key for a successful same-day edit wedding video
Along with their wedding feature, they also booked us to create a wedding same-day edit, which is a cool feature to have and wow the guests at a reception. However, SDEs do require a different way of thinking and considerably more pre-production involvement than our standard films, therefore we had to think differently and creatively. That implies we ask a lot more questions to stay two or three steps ahead of the action and have almost their story entirely planned out before we arrive and start filming. Today, there's a lot more planning that goes into every same-day edit wedding video we create, but the key is to take advantage of knowing exactly what you're going for. We'll already know what song we'll use, how we'll transition between different scenes, the film's narrative arch, and the conclusion ahead of time since we'll have planned everything.
How we chose the music for their same-day edit wedding video
We figured out that music was a crucial part of their lives, and their preferences fell into an electronic/chillwave/hip-hop category. We worked hard to find a song that characterized this sound, and despite being something you wouldn't typically think of for a wedding film, Icelanders' Colors was ideal. We enjoyed the music and it encouraged us to try something different than we would otherwise. The lyrics, "Falling, I am falling, I'm falling for you," are the key. This allowed us to incorporate the intimacy of the day into their film throughout. From Peter's preparation to Tracy's make-up, the couple reading their cards to one another, or simply holding hands at every opportunity after tying the knot - we knew we'd have everything we'd need to pull it off, therefore we went for it, and felt it made the piece even tighter, allowing the visuals to play off of each other.
Producing wedding videos in Toronto that are outside the box
When it all came together we saw and heard an audience of 150+ people at their reception laugh, applaud, ooh, ahh, and exclaim "That's amazing!" It was worth it. We always aim to produce something that highlights the couple's personalities and their story, and we believe this is a great representation of Tracy and Peter — and their quirks pushed us to go outside of our comfort zone and think outside the box. In all honesty, putting something like this together for them takes a great deal of getting to know a couple on all levels. That's why we were so excited when Tracy and Peter selected us to film their wedding day. From start to finish, it was an amazing day! Capturing the emotions of the day was easy - between laughter, tears, and just pure joy, there was never a dull moment. And to top it off - we had the opportunity to work with some of our favorite people in the industry. We just can't thank the couple enough for choosing us to be a part of your day!
